We got a mat That says welcome home You won’t find a key Or a telephone We ain’t got a window Or a fireplace But we got one helluva view Over the bay And all of our friends They come around We have a good time Knockin’ ‘em down So if you care to join us Don’t try to call We’re under the bridge Havin’ a ball People are movin’ Up overhead They’re drivin’ in circles Full of regret But we got a handle Of what’s goin’ on It’s life in the slow Is where we belong And all of our friends They come around We have a good time Just knockin’ ‘em down So if you care to join us Don’t try to call We’re under the bridge Just havin’ a ball We’re under the bridge Just havin’ a ball We’re under the bridge Havin’ a ball

Water Below 03:15
Be careful of the under bridge dweller He’s a demon, he’s a real deal killer He’ll drag you down to the waters below Waters below Waters below I’ve sunk so low just to rise above I’ve felt the power of his dangerous love Drown in me river of unholy waters Waters below Waters below Waters below Waters below Way up there We are not alone You call me home In the steelness of the air Our powers are our own You call us home I’m bruised and beaten My fists been swung Took down that devil My unchosen one Barefoot and broken To the runes I will purify Waters below Waters below Waters below Waters below Waters below Waters below Waters below Waters below Waters below Waters below Waters below Waters below Waters below Waters below Waters below

Steel Bridge to the Brooklyn Bridge to the Bay Bridge, this is me Never gonna quit never gonna give in, never give up up on my dream Say what you want, laugh and taunt, kick kick kick my self-esteem I won’t lose, I’m gonna prove to you and you who doubted me (Doubted me x7) Ooooh yeah, yeah Ooooh yeah, yeah My dad builds ships, drills and bits, irons still light up when hit My dad did what his dad did, like a family biz One big steel trap break your back Why chance my life like that I’d rather chance it on the chance, to make it you must take that chance Take that chance To make it you must take that chance! This is my life This is my time This is my life This is my lifetime I’m in the zone, I’m on my own Record I dropped is goin’ gold In L.A., money and fame Everywhere I look, it’s in my face Superstar, I’ve come so far, house on the lake, a fancy car I’m a superstar Bank account is off the chain Hat size, still the same Taste success like sugar cane First seat on the plane, backseat limousine Goin’ back to where I came Steel bridge, still the same Still the same I’m the same I’m the same This is my life This is my time This is my life This is my life This is my life This is my time This is my life This is my lifetime I’m still the same!

I’ve been thinkin’ of a thousand things I’ve been thinkin’ of one Will you still be here next time around Seems I never get to stay too long Always passin’ through Leavin’ you with nothin’ but a song May you always feel the mornin’ shine upon your silver skin As your beauty and your sorrow touch the sky You’re the steel beneath my wheels But you’re the bridge on my mind I’ve been busy rollin’ over you Just to say goodbye Just to hear your little lonesome whine Now it’s time to go away again Back from where I came But I’ll be sure come see you again next time May you always feel the mornin’ shine upon your silver skin As your beauty and your sorrow touch the sky You’re the steel beneath my wheels But you’re the bridge on my mind May you always feel the mornin’ shine upon your silver skin As your beauty and your sorrow touch the sky You’re the steel beneath my wheels But you’re the bridge on my mind I’ve been thinkin’ of a thousand things I’ve been thinkin’ of one Will you still be here next time around

Silver saddle Over the bay I’ll be your driver I’ll be your driver Throw silver dollars Into the lake My silver saddle When will you wake Hang on, be strong Won’t be long You’re the way To the Holiday You won’t be forsaken And you’ll keep on makin’ Silver shadows Against the sky I will be crossing I will be crossing You are a beacon In the night Just keep on shining That silver light Hang on, be strong Won’t be long You’re the way To the Holiday You won’t be forsaken And you’ll keep on makin’ Silver shadows Over the bay I’ll be your driver I’ll be your driver Throw silver dollars Into the lake My silver saddle When will you wake My silver saddle When will you wake

They were runnin’ shine across state lines Leavin’ Kentucky far behind From the stills and the hills to the timber pines up north Pay off the sheriff in some small town To keep the lights from comin’ ‘round Tomorrow I’ll be Chicago bound again We were runnin’ (runnin’) Runnin’ fast across the whiskey bridge all night They were comin’ (comin’) Comin’ fast upon our heels To the steel bridge where I die (where I die) This old Ford is filled with booze Drop-off points and rendezvous Juke joints where they sing the blues all night I learned the trade from my old man He kicked off and here I stand Just a kid with nothin’ left to lose We were runnin’ (runnin’) Runnin’ fast across the whiskey bridge all night They were comin’ (comin’) Comin’ fast upon our heels To the steel bridge where I die (where I die) We were runnin’ (runnin’) Runnin’ fast across the whiskey bridge all night They were comin’ (comin’) Comin’ fast upon our heels To the steel bridge where I die (where I die) We were runnin’ (runnin’) Runnin’ fast across the whiskey bridge all night They were comin’ (comin’) Comin’ fast upon our heels To the steel bridge where I die (where I die)

Goodbye South Bend I hate to leave you here again Where the cotton falls like snow From the trees Goodbye old friend I hope to see you here again When the lonely whites of winter Turn to green I’m on way To that old bridge across the bay With a fever in my stride And the devil by my side Goodbye South Bend I hope to see you here again I’ve been wearin’ out the asphalt And the patience of my friends Goodbye old friend I hate to leave you here again Between the whiskey and the winter I’ve been wearin’ thin ‘Cause I’m on my way To that old bridge across the bay With a fever in my stride And the devil by my side Goodbye South Bend Goodbye South Bend Goodbye South Bend Goodbye Goodbye South Bend

Red Dress 03:15
You wreck me with your skin tight babe Like a wanderer’s fascination We’d run into that fire of love That penetrates and devastates my sleep Clamoring for an anchor In the most politest rancor What have I done to deserve this anger What has become of that red dress What has become of the softest bruising What have I done to you I thought my legs grew steel once more Grown soldier from the fight Heartstrings buckle under Hands turned fists clenched tight Foreign hand to figure known In manners that myself once owned What have I done to deserve this anger What has become of you What have I done to deserve this wrecking What has become of me

If you meet me Like you said I will wear that Dress of red Yellow daisy In my hair Please remember I’ll be there Will she get my letter With my regret Still here in Reno Workin’ off a bit And I tried leavin’ Wasn’t in the cards By the time they got me I didn’t make it far I was there waiting for you on the bridge I haven’t seen that red dress in a while Mmmm you said you’d be waiting on that bridge I was standing Where I said I almost gave up I almost left Outta nowhere I saw a face It wasn’t yours, dear You’ve been replaced Out of nowhere I saw a face It wasn’t yours, dear You’ve been replaced It wasn’t yours, dear You’ve been replaced

When they find your metal skeleton in a few centuries Under the dust and the rust and dirt and leaves and the debris They’ll wonder why the bridge is so great Went right across the river way Hope you found what you were reaching for Tear the grey sky down for being colors that you find displeasing Call someone to punish the wind for blowing without your permission All these things will come to pass The everlasting does not last Like the world that built you just to walk on your back All these things will come to pass The everlasting does not last Like the world that built you just to walk on your back All these things will come to pass The everlasting does not last Like the world that built you just to walk on your back

Christopher Patrick had an unfortunate accident Let’s just say it was a frozen bratwurst incident A welder by trade, he could have one made for a real low cost And now he’s got a new steel bridge to replace all the teeth he lost Some people say, “It’s gonna rust, you can’t trust that it won’t cave in.” “It should be gold or molded out of porcelain.” But I say, “A silvery grin, above my chin It might blind you a smidge But I think of all the money I saved on my steel bridge.” Every time they laugh, I just flash them a great big smile It might not be their cup of tea, but it’s just my style I’ve got the silvery grin under my chin It might blind you a smidge But think of the impression I’ll make with my steel bridge Some people say, “It’s gonna rust, you can’t trust that it won’t cave in.” “It should be gold or molded out of porcelain.” But I say, “A silvery grin, above my chin It might blind you a smidge But think of all the money I saved on my steel bridge. Yeah, I know it’s mine and I’ll be just fine with my steel bridge.”

World has visions of what love should be Separate is all they want from you and me We connect a link made of steel Detours may diverge but this road will lead me to you Things crumble but we meant with heart Instead of fighting over steel we try to fight for something real Days drag on but the nightlife keeps me still Empty drinks and a broken heart Flying past the worst of everything Makes no sense when you’ve got so much to work out Things crumble but we meant with heart Instead of fighting over steel we try to fight for something real Instead of fighting over steel we try to fight for something real Things crumble but we meant with heart Things crumble but we meant with heart Instead of fighting over steel we try to fight for something real Instead of fighting over steel we try to fight for something real

Like a daydream of a cool stream High above the ridge Sitting on the bridge Toss a penny for a wish Like the first taste of a snowflake Like a raindrop on your tongue Or a heartache when you’re young You remember every one Hear the sound All around Remember how Our song Began Like a memory of a melody Like a wish upon a star That I wake up where you are Nowhere’s too far Hear the sound All around Remember how Our song Began Hear the sound All around Remember how Our song Hear the sound All around Remember how Our song Began Remember how Our song began

Rebuilding the bridge Between our hearts Creating foundations Where we start Singing a new song I’m farther along The path to my soul The path to my soul Ooooh You can handle the storm A thousand blows But nothing will break ‘Til it’s ready to go And it’s through the struggle That you find the strength of your own The path to my soul The path to my soul The path to my soul The path to my soul Rebuilding the bridge Between our hearts Creating foundations Where we start Singing a new song I’m farther along The path to my soul The path to my soul Ooooh When you stood up And told the truth True inspiration It moved right through Like a rollin’ river It carries me On the path to my soul The path to my soul Rebuilding the bridge Between our hearts Creating foundations Where we start Singing a new song I’m farther along The path to my soul The path to my soul Ooooh And when they lay me Down in my tomb It’s then I’ll be healed From all of my wounds And rise like an angel I will fly on The path to my soul The path to my soul The path to my soul The path to my soul The path to my soul

Clear light sparkles on the water Clean wind floats on the air There’s lovely dancing and singing From lads and maidens so fair Inspiration flows like ambrosia Friendships and love affairs bloom All the while the Gods of Door County smile down On this magical moment in June Each morning the troubadours wake with a smile AND greet their neighbors so kind Then pick up their lutes and fiddles and flutes Writing melodies sweeter than wine Far, far above the shining steel bridge The Gods of Door County are pleased While far, far away near another great bridge Weeps a Sconnie with busted up knees THE GOOD FOLK AT THE HOLIDAY MOTEL CAN ALL GO SUCK IT, I SAY KICK FUCK YOU ALL FOR HAVING A BALL WHILE I SICKLY AND SILENTLY LAY WHILE I SICKLY AND SILENTLY LAY Greetings from the Gods of Door County We really wish you would’ve come To join us in drinking and laughing And going to bed to the beat of a drum Text messages, phone calls, and emails Bombard me like clockwork hourly Photos of frolicking fun in the sun Of singer/songwriters scholarly As I swill Vicodin cocktails I curse each and every artiste That crosses that goddamn dilapidated bridge Like musical migrating geese THE GOOD FOLK AT THE HOLIDAY MOTEL CAN ALL KISS MY BIG FUCKING ASS THERE’S NO POINT DENYING AS I LAY HERE CRYING I CURSE YOU FOR HAVING A BLAST I CURSE YOU FOR HAVING A BLAST

There are monkeys with crayons Invading the town They’ve got gum on their bums And the plums on their tongues They are painting their faces With the fruit of man They have spilled milky blood And it’s time to cleanse their hands There are trucks filled with yogurt Crashing into doors There are ninjas in slippers sharpening their swords You gave me a cockpunch so I slapped your knuckled moose Then run home to Montgomery in his clubhouse caboose Come in! Chris! Feel free to like, be like, I want no part of this Avatar! Breakfast, spider punch, cockpunch, o-ring, shay-lo, j-lo, brown eye, stink nugget Oh fuck it, oh ro ro ro ro rubbish rubbish rubbish ro Ruby starfruit Ruby starfruit Ruby starfruit Oye! Shut ya mouth Well the monkeys have polished crayons on the lamp They are finding your women, turning them all damp If you close one yer eye You might find the magic key To the edge of the bridge where the monkeys go to pee I’m peeing Rabies!

about

What is it about Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin that inspires so many great songs? Some say it's something in the water, something that was planted here long ago, rising high above the surface, holding firm for those crossing over, opening up for those who float on by. What could be more inspirational or set a better example for the struggling artist in all of us than an old steel drawbridge?
